Why early regulatory planning matters
The same biostimulant can be regulated as a fertiliser, an agvet product, or something in between — entirely on the strength of the claim printed on the label. We’ve advised on biostimulant and biological product registrations across EMEA and APAC, including under the EU Fertilising Products Regulation (EU) 2019/1009. In Australia, a national Code of Practice now exists too, but like the equivalent fertiliser code, it’s a labelling reference rather than a registration, so the claim still has to be right from the outset.
Fertiliser pathway
Regulated as a fertiliser, e.g. under the EU Fertilising Products Regulation (EU) 2019/1009.
Agvet / PPP pathway
Assessed as an agricultural or veterinary chemical, following the same process as a plant protection product.
Labelling-only
Falls under a Code of Practice — a labelling reference, not a registration.
